My name is Jess Champagne. I’m an artist, illustrator, and graphic designer currently living outside Victoria, BC.

My work illustration work incorporates elements of the natural world often composed in complex patterns conveying movement. I like to mix hand-painted watercolour, gouache, ink and digital illustrations. I love observing natural forms and funneling them into surface design patterns, place prints and playful maps.

My inspiration comes from living on the west coast Canada where I get fuelled by hiking, being on the water, spontaneous waterfalls and second spring (mushroom season in mid fall!)   When I’m not outside I’m caring for my orchids, hanging with my family, trying to learn Japanese, consuming murder mysteries and existential animation.

I’m grateful to get to indulge my travel addiction from time to time, visiting the protected surf refuge in Noosa, Australia or Hawaiian orchid gardens or everywhere and anywhere in Japan. My all time favourite trips were studying botany in the Amazon and visiting the botanical gardens in Okinawa.

I like to nerd-out about the natural world. My favourite thing about making artworks that reflect the ocean? Sometimes scientists reach out to me and tell me they like my work. When a marine biologist tags me with a pic of herself in one of my rash guards, it fuels me for weeks and helps me get through those tough days when it feels like a million things are going wrong. So please reach out, I’m always happy to hear from you and you’re never bothering me. I might be slow to respond but know I take every nice word or review to heart. (If you’re an introvert, take this as your sign to say hello!)

(BTW, if you see my work on Amazon or any strange stores please know that is a rip-off of my prints, please consider reporting these. I have reached out to Amazon and they refuse to take down rips off despite copyright proof, without a full lawsuit.)
